Advanced Automotive Technology Resource site for Hybrid,                       Plug-in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles

I created this website to promote advanced automotive technology into all levels of automotive technical training. Do not attempt to service high voltage hybrid vehicle systems. All high voltage hybrid vehicle system service issues should be performed by trained dealership personnel. All comments, observations and opinions are mine and have been formulated from my personal experiences within the automotive field.

Thanks to my friends at Toyota Motor sales, I was provided a Toyota Highlander fuel-cell electric vehicle to drive for a week during the 2007 NSF sponsored "Advanced Automotive Hybrid Vehicle Conference". Of course a fuel-cell vehicle shares many of the same components as a conventional hybrid vehicle. The hydrogen fuel cell stack replaces the internal combustion engine (ICE) and high pressure CO2 replaces A134 in the climate control system. Hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicles provide emission free driving with oxygen and water emitting from the tailpipe. The last photo on the FCHEV page is of the water exiting the tailpipe upon shutdown; the system purges all water from the fuel stack upon shutdown. Water and water vapor management is a critical issue with a FCHEV vehicle.
